This Super Mario punch game will take your party to the next level (pun intended). This doubled as a super fun game as well as a great party decoration for my son’s Super Mario birthday. My kids said they felt like they were in the video game when they punched the question boxes just like Mario! Read on for details on how to make your own..

For the brown blocks, I ordered these brown cake boxes on Amazon that I spray painted. Once dried, I used thin black painter’s tape to make lines for bricks

I made six punchable yellow question blocks for this game. These yellow cake boxes from Amazon were the perfect size and were very lightweight, perfect for hanging onto the wall for the game

The boxes arrived flat, as pictured, which made the first step of this project nice and easy. I started by cutting out a rectangle, a little larger than the size of an adult fist, with an Exacto knife at the narrow part of the box

Next, I stood the box up with the hole facing down

and placed two yellow tissue paper squares that were a bit larger than the hole right on top

I hot glued one sheet to the box and glued another sheet on top of the first sheet, so it would be strong enough to hold the prize inside as well as be less transparent

A view from the bottom

I put a word in each box that spelled out a secret message that told the kids where to find their hidden prize

I assembled the back of the box and then the front (Tip: write the word that’s inside your question box very lightly with pencil somewhere on the outside of each box, so you know what order to hang the boxes for the secret message)

I cut out question marks on white card stock and glued them to yellow poster board squares which were the same size as the cake boxes (I used the yellow poster board because the color of the yellow cake box was a tad darker than the shade of yellow I was going for

Then I hot glued the square onto the back of the box, as shown (Tip: the front of the box should go against the wall when hanging, since it is a solid, single piece)

I used strong double sided tape to hang the boxes. The kids were able to punch the question blocks without anyone having to hold the boxes in place

This was the secret message. I had each child unscramble their word before the next question box was punched. This magnetic white board stand came in handy. I used the font on this site to create the title of our game, “Mario’s Puzzle Punch”

Another plus with this project is that it’s reusable. All the next person has to do is replace the yellow tissue paper squares on the bottom of the boxes and add a prize! Woohoo!

There you have it, a next level Super Mario game your kids will LOVE!
