Super Mario Question Block Piñata

I made this question block piñata for my son’s Super Mario birthday party. If you’ve never made your own piñata, have no fear! This piñata project is beginner friendly. I’ll walk you through all the steps..

A visual of the piñata in action

I started by cutting a slit on the four vertical edges of a 12 x 12 x 12 box. Then I put two small strips of painter’s tape horizontally towards the top and bottom of the cut edges (Tip: don’t put more than two pieces of tape on each edge, so the piñata can break open when it is being hit)

For the bottom of the box, I cut out a piece of 14 x 14 yellow poster board paper (from Dollar Tree), folded the excess 1 inch of paper around the bottom of the box, and taped it using painter’s tape

Then I filled the piñata with Super Mario activity books, make a face sheets, slap bracelets, stickers, and candy

Once the piñata was filled, it was time to make the piñata handle. I made two holes at the top of the box and put a zip tie through them

Then I sealed the top of the box with tape, while making sure the zip ties were sticking out through the holes

I added a 14 x 14 piece of yellow poster paper on top of the box and made two holes matching the holes underneath (Tip: tape the ends of the zip ties to the box before doing this step, so the zip ties don’t fall into the box)

Then I connected the zip tie and taped the yellow poster board to the box

For the sides of the box, I cut out four 12 x 12 pieces of yellow poster paper and taped them to the box using yellow tape. The yellow tape gave the piñata a nice clean look on the edges

For details, I added a question mark to each side of the box and streamers to the bottom using hot glue. There you have it, a DIY Super Mario question block piñata!
