Wagon Makeover: Turn Your Wagon Into a Pirate Ship

This pirate ship project was a bit more challenging than this Spooky Halloween Mobile project, but if you’re up to the task your kids will thank you! Here’s a link of a covered two seater wagon similar to ours. This is not a last minute project you are going to want to take on the night before Halloween, so make sure to give yourself a few days to complete it. Here we go mateys..

I started by wrapping the wagon with several boxes I joined together with masking tape.

Next, I zip tied the cardboard to the wagon in four places to secure it.

I used brown tempera paint for a wooden pirate ship look.

Next, I covered the cardboard on the inside of the ship with black poster board and black painters tape.

Then, I added black painters tape to the bottom and corners of the ship to give it a more finished look and used a black sharpie to draw “nailed wooden boards” around the ship.

I glued three black cardstock squares to one side of the ship and hot glued painted toilet paper rolls on top for canons.

I made an anchor out black poster board and attached it to the ship with a metal keychain. Then, I added a pirate flag I made out of poster board and a long thin painted wooden dowel from Home Depot.

On the other side of the ship, I glued three round windows and hung a netted bag filled with Halloween goodie bags we made for other trick or treaters we spotted along our route. I also placed a bluetooth speaker in our ship for pirate music!

A tour of our pirate ship!!!
