Dinosaur Birthday Party

This Dinosaur themed birthday was one of the funnest themes to date.  From the Dinosaur Tours booth to the volcano cake.  The kids (and adults alike) had a blast.

Outdoor Decorations

Sign on front door

I made this sign with chalk marker on black poster board from Dollar Tree and taped it to this metal plaque.  I purchased these vines from Amazon, lots and lots of vines, to put a special touch to some of the decor.

Decor by front door

This was a fun little project.  I saved four boxes from previous Amazon purchases that were varying sizes and wrapped them in this postal wrapping paper I purchased from Amazon.

I had some 2 inch and 3 inch stencils laying around and used them to make the cargo and explosives sign on the boxes.  Here is something similar to what I used for 3 inches as well as 2 inches.

Dino prints leading up to front door

Added some black dinosaur prints leading up to the house and voila!!! The tone is set for a dino extravaganza!!!

Printed one copy of this dino footprint, cut it out and used it as a tracer to trace onto black poster board.  I traced and cut about 10 of these to fill up the walkway up to the house.

Indoor Decor

Decor on the front room coffee table, hats for the guests

When you first walk in, there is a table set up for guests to pick up a dino adventure hat along with a hat and vest for kids.  I purchased these plastic dinosaurs from Amazon to decorate the table with.

You can add leaves to any mirror for a cool effect

I cut out leaves on multi colored paper and added it to our front room mirror.

Dinosaur Signs

I wrote this message with chalk marker on black poster board and added some vines to it
Found this blank arrow style sign at Home Goods and use it at almost every party
Found some green moss at Dollar Tree I was able to use as a border
Used these signs on the food table
Love these tiny chalkboard/whiteboard stands!
I used leftover postal wrapping paper and leaves to wrap the birthday presents
This Bells of Ireland plant I found at Vons was the perfect touch for the coffee table

Viney Tree

Viney dinosaur tree

I made this tree out of a huge cardboard box my husband received his car bumper in. Here is the blog post I wrote on how to build this viney creation.

Dinosaur Tours Booth/Dinosaur Hunt

This dinosaur tour booth/dinosaur hunt is one of our all-time favorite birthday party activities.  I have an Ikea kitchen that I transform into a themed booth for every birthday party we’ve had.  It has been a bakery stand, dinosaur hunt booth, a princess tower, etc. etc. etc. LOVE this IKEA kitchen sooo much.  Here are some pics of the dino tour booth I made for our dino hunt.

I hung a black netted bag on the side of the booth that had flashlights I purchased at Dollar Tree and used this black netting to cover the booth

Guests walk up to the booth, two at a time, and say they would like to go on a dinosaur tour.  Cadence and Kyrie give them a flashlight, a set of binoculars we made out of toilet paper rolls, and a dino chart on mini clip boards with a mini pencil.

This is the dino chart I made

I hid a dinosaur in each room and it was Cadence and Kyrie’s job to walk each pair of dino hunt guests into each room and have them locate the hidden dinosaur.  Once they found the hidden dinosaur, they had to look at their clip board and check off the dinosaur they found.  The rooms were as dark as possible, so the flashlights were fun to use. OH, and I played the Jurassic Park soundtrack throughout the house, so it made the tour super fun. These are the dinosaurs we used for the hunt. I purchased these inflatable dinosaurs from Amazon.

Food

I used some round and rectangular tree stumps and some small black chalkboard stands I purchased at a local craft store (similar to Michael’s) as the foundation for the food table, along with some plastic dinosaurs and paper cut-outs of leaves in various shapes and colors that I laid around the table, and fresh rosemary from my mom’s garden.

The herbivore section had various veggies for dipping in ranch, which I had on the bottom of each cup
The carnivore section was an antipasto type vibe with cheese sticks rolled in salami and mini wooden forks to eat the other goodies
We added a “lebnivores” section as a joke.  Lebni is a delicious middle eastern dip mixed with garlic and salt and topped with olive oil and dried mint we like to enjoy with pita chips. A classic at our family get togethers

Volcano Cake

I had a blast making this cake.  It was everything it was meant to be. Here is a blog post I wrote on how to make this volcano cake.

Dinosaur Fruit Kebabs

This is the dinosaur cookie cutter I used to make the watermelon dinosaur prints

Outdoor Dinosaur Activities

One of our traditions with birthday parties are piñatas and fun outdoor activities. I made a dinosaur egg piñata and the kids had a dinosaur egg hunt afterwards. I wrote a how-to blog on this DIY dino egg piñata and the super fun dinosaur egg hunt. Here is a link to that blog.
